I would like to know if there is a mysql function that allows you to select something only once or if I have to use php to do that for me?

No... It's to be used in a fetch_array tag. Right now what I have,
$namechat="SELECT * FROM `logs` WHERE `when`>='$clear' AND `when`<='$time' AND `x`='$x' AND `y`='$y' AND `z`='$z'";
$querychat=mysql_query($namechat);
$chatray=mysql_fetch_array($querychat);

if ($chatray[2]==NULL) {
if ($chatray[3]=="/") {
if ($chatray[1]==$user) {
$_SESSION['chat']=$_SESSION['chat']."<b>You ".$chatray[4]."</b><br>
";
} elseif ($chatray[1]!=$user) {
$_SESSION['chat']=$_SESSION['chat'].ucfirst($chatray[1])." ".$chatray[4]."<br>
";
}
}
}
It keeps generating what it previously generated... I need a way to make it only select something once..
