Database tables invisible in NetBeans

1
Hello,

I am trying to develop JSP application with Visual Web Pack in Netbeans 5.5.

I am trying to connect to MySql database. It was going all well and with some minor problems I was able to make my database appear in the Databases in the Runtime list. I can connect to my database and I can create a table (I check the database with MySql administration program and the table is there, also Netbeans displays error telling that table is already there when I try to recreate it).

The problem however is that I cannot see the table in the Runtime list. The Tables node is just plain empty (as well as all other nodes: views and procedures).

What to do about that? Any idea appreciated.
Thank you.

Must have to do with the configuration/setup of your Visual Web Pack or NetBeans. When the table exists in the MySQL database, you know that at least that part works.

Look in the WebPack configuration and setup manual.

I have the same problem herein described. I can add the tables created through netbeans 5.5 are viewable on the MySQL command line. So there is no problem creating the tables.

The tables node is viewable if one uses Derby DB, so it can´t be only a netbeans problem.

Might this suggests that Derby has added files, not in the MySQL connector, that allow tables to be visible?

I solved my problem for invisible tables in netbeans 5.5 and MYSql as follows:
Following the advice I read (Connecting to Databases http://www.netbeans.org/kb/40/using-netbeans/dbconn.html) I loaded driver's JAR file in my web proyect’s WEB-INF/lib folder.

This is in addition to having loaded it in NetBeans 5.5 JBDC drivers' folder.

However, that was not enough. Let me explain:
I had originally connected the driver using jdbc:mysql/// as the URL and THAT was the culprit. Changing the URL to jdbc:mysql//localhost:3306/DatabaseName solved the problem.

Thus, one must first create a database, give it a name, and then reconnect the driver with the database name in the URL. One can create the database either in the MySQL command line, or through netbeans. As already explained, if one chooses netbeans, one is not able to see tables, until one opens a new driver connection with the database name in the URL.

Note that 3306 is the port for MySQL.

Hope this helps someone.

Me explico:
jdbc:mysql//localhost:3306/NombreDeBaseDeDatos
