Newbie for PHP and MYSQL

Hello Everybody, glad I found you all here.
I desprately want to understand PHP and MYSQL in relation to develope web sites. I'm sick and tired of build static pages. Brief reading PHP and MYSQL its sounds sexy.
This is my situation: I'm comfortable with HTML and CSS, I'm not really understanding the logic of javascript but I can use it comfortably whenever I need it.

for the sake of wanting to learn PHP and MYSQL I force myself to rent a remote server, a SOHO hosting package they called it. I tried that little < ?phpinfo();?> thingi....wow...what a surprise...very little code and produces so much, I think I would like that kind of stuff.

Now... I want to learn the stuff but my brain is little rusty, can somebody lead me to somewhere real example of PHP and MYSQL working together? probably something like dummy database and pretend PHP codes.

Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
