Replicate MySQL

Replication of MySQL is a standard feature, but my webhost will not
allow that I set up a replication where the slave database (on my PC)
connects to the log on the webserver.

As I have not yet digged into the replication issue, I would like to
hear if there is a possible workaround so that I possibly make the
Master database (on the webhost) generate logfiles, which I then by use
of ftp transfer to a folder on my PC where the slave can read these?

Alternatively I will make a full daily backup of the database and then
load this into my local Mysql server. But a little timeconsuming :-(

Thanks for any advise!

Regards,
Mogens
