select records from two or more related tables and edit them?

I can't help but think I'm re-inventing the wheel if I have to code my
own interface! Isn't there some script, php code, or something
(modifiable / customizable) available that lets me select records from
two or more related tables and edit them. As mentioned in a previous
post, I'm currently selecting a record from table 1; editing it,
selecting the related record(s) from table 2; editing them, and so on.
This is nuts, not to mention confusing.

Can anyone point me to an example script, preferably python or PHP, and
since I’m hoping for the best, object oriented.

Thanks,

Bill

You could try using MySQL 5.0.x and define a view for your joined
tables. Then you should be able to issue UPDATE statements against the
table and have them apply to the underlying physical tables.

Except for cases where it's impossible to map the view's individual data
to the underlying physical data (e.g. use of aggregates, expressions in
fields, DISTINCT, etc.).

ah - a message of BILL's ..

do you want an interface ?
Are you a programmer ?
I would suggest EITHER Visual FoxPro [my personal bias]
or
DABO [my second choice]
and write your own interface [30 minutes in vfp, 30 minutes in DABO]
for VFP stuff - see my last link
for DABO - see http://dabo.leafe.com/
mondo regards [Bill]

yes

Not actually. I'm a disabled older guy who tries to keep engaged. I can
create or cobble together scripts, and code, in various languages, none
of which are either elegant, or thorough enough not to insult "real"
programmers if I claimed to be one :-)

On first pass, DABO shows potential. It will require me to learn
another program from scratch (which in my case may close to re-inventing
someone else's wheel), but I don't know what I was expecting.

Bill
