MySQL Join in select

Hi
I have two tables:
LOANS: loan_serial, customer_id, loan_amount, cheque_no1, cheque_no2, cheque_no3, period
STATEMENT: customer_id, cheque_no, amount.

A customer can be paid three times. for each payment, a record is added in STATEMENT and either cheque_no1, cheque_no2 or cheque_no3 updated with the value in STATEMENT.chequ e_no in the new record.

How can i get loan_serial, customer_id, and the total amount paid for each loan in mysql

i.e. something close to
SELECT LOANS.loan_seri al, LOANS.customer_ id, SUM(SELECT STATEMENT.amoun t FROM STATEMENT, LOANS WHERE STATEMENT.chequ e_no=LOANS.cheq ue_no1 OR STATEMENT.chequ e_no=LOANS.cheq ue_no2 OR STATEMENT.chequ e_no=LOANS.cheq ue_no3)

SELECT a.loan_serial, a.customer_id, SUM(amount) AS total_amount
FROM LOANS AS a, STATEMENT AS b
WHERE a.customer_id = b.customer_id
GROUP BY a.loan_serial, a.customer_id

Here's one for pathological SQL programmers. I've got a table of things called elements. They're components, sort of like amino acids, which come together to form complex web pages -- as nodes in trees which form parent-child relationships, sort of like newsgroups. For example, the parent_id field points to another element. Indent_level is there for denormalization purposes, to avoid costly recursive issues in querying. The...

I'm pretty much a newbie on mysql, and I need some help. I am running mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.24, for portbld-freebsd5.4 (i386) on a server hosting an active website. The site's developer uses his own php shopping cart to receive customer orders. The configuration was done via cPanel with no external modifications - which produced no protests when built, ran and connected with no

Quick and dirty version. Godaddy server using MySQL 4.0.24 I’m trying a left join to obtain id’s in table A(cars) that are NOT in car_id in table B(newspaper): *This is a cut down version to simplify testing. Full version is posted towards the end. SELECT C.id FROM cars C LEFT OUTER JOIN newspaper N USING (C.id=N.car_id) WHERE N.car_id IS NOT NULL;

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
