My current version of mysql is 3.23.58. I'd like to upgrade the version
to 5.0.18.
After downloading from MYSQL.COM the package on the site, I made :
rpm -i MySQL-server-5.0.18-0.i386.rpm
You can try installing with the rpm --force option, or you can try
uninstalling MySQL 3.23 first.
You might find it complains about uninstalling, if other RPM packages are
depending on MySQL 3.23. In that case I usually give up and install MySQL
from a non-RPM distribution (they have plain tarball downloads), overwriting
the older MySQL files.

Excessive interdependency of RPM packages is very inconvenient.
I m currently working on a Unix server with a fedora 3 as an os

FWIW, Fedora is Linux, not UNIX. The distinction may appear unimportant,
but it's the subject of a multi-billion-dollar lawsuit ongoing between The
SCO Group and IBM.

Hi

Thanks for the help.

I have a lot of problems...

First, I'd like to ask several things

I installed MySQL-server-5.0.18-0 (it's in the list when I write the
command rpm -qa | grep -i mysql) and MySQL-client-5.0.18-0
I restart httpd and mysql but it still doesn't work. How do I know?
well i try to launch mysql prompt and it doesn't work...

If i try to install the package MySQL-devel-5.0.18-0, i need openssl
and if i try to install openssl, i need :
krb5-devel is needed by openssl-devel-0.9.8a-5.2
openssl = 0.9.8a-5.2 is needed by openssl-devel-0.9.8a-5.2
zlib-devel is needed by openssl-devel-0.9.8a-5.2

Do i have to go on with the installation or I made a mistake?

Please help it's quite urgent !!

Thanks

I have MySQL server 4.0.12-standard installation. How can I upgrade to 4.1.10-standard version? Of course I can always build a brand new server with a new 4.1.10 install. But other than that final option, is there any other option available to upgrade my database? Thanks, Yasaswi
