MYSQL Join help

Hey guys,

Putting it simply, here is my situation
I have one table with records like this:

+--------+------+------+
| index | name | style|
+--------+------+------+
| 1 | 7 | 110 |
| 2 | 23 | 343 |
| 3 | 6 | 443 |
| 4 | 7 | 441 |
| 5 | 23 | 210 |
+--------+------+------+

I then have another table like this

+--------+------+------+
| index | data | type |
+--------+------+------+
| 7 | asdf | ASF |
| 23 | qwer | ASF |
| 110 | fkgk | FHH |
| 441 | fkgj | FHH |
| 6 | ksdk | ZAD |
+--------+------+------+

All i need to do is switch the name and style number values in colums "name, style" in the first table for the "data"
column in the second table. Based on the Index in the second table.

So if name column's value was 23, when i do my select query it would retun "qwer"
instead of 23

Can ANYONE please help please?

Hi,

This should be what you're looking for (pretending, you want ALL rows from
the first table, whether or not there are matching rows in the second table;
if you only want matching rows, replace 'left join' by 'inner join'):

select a.index, b.name, a.style, b.type
from table1 a left join table2 b on a.name = b.index

Hi, Not sure if the problem here is PHP or MySQL, but here we go. I am trying to do two queries on a database - one after the other, but the second one never seems to get executed. The two queries are identical except for two variables. I have checked my form and they are correct and are being sent to the PHP script the way they should be. The variables are $playerto, $playerfrom, $nameto, $namefrom. The 'TO' query is the one that...

Hi, I'm not that up on SQL as a whole as I've concentrated mainly on frontend and most of the DB backend work I've done has been with "Access" as that's all the site needed. I have however worked with SQL Server 2000 a little and now I'm trying to migrate to MySQL. I understand that views are not supported in MySQL as yet and was curious to know if there is a workaround this using VBScript? My VBScript coding is a bit of a mish-mash...

I'm pretty much a newbie on mysql, and I need some help. I am running mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.24, for portbld-freebsd5.4 (i386) on a server hosting an active website. Hi All I have a sticky problem! Its a LEFT JOIN sql statement which works fine in MySQL but not when called in Perl. Any ideas? I have 2 tables: campaigns & companies. I'm trying to join them so that all columns of both tables are returned when 2 fields match across the tables and some additional tests in the first table. It works fine in MySQL but returns an empty set when called in Perl. Is there some limitation in Perl or a better way...

I will appreciate any help you can provide me. In the company where i work we have a project which creates about 4-5M records daily of stats. We're currently storing this data in a db named 'summary' which contains all the stats data for up to 15 days. After that we begin to move the data in a daily basis to a single 'archived like' unique table in another fast performance mysql instance. Why we do this ? to respect the 80%-20% rule: 80% of...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
