Emulator takes up disc space ?

hey !
Before i ran my emulator i had 14.9 GB free space in my C:/ .. after i closed by emulator space left now is 13.6 GB .
i thought emulator takes temporary memory and releases the memory when emulator is closed

It's probably saving game states so you don't lose all your progress the next time you start up the game.
