Converting ASP website to work on iPhone

Does anyone know if you can get data from a classic asp page and import it into an iphone app so if someone uses the app i am trying to make when details of products are wanted it gets them from an asp page?

I know this is easily done with other ways but we have a website that runs with Access database and classic asp and would like to avoid changing 2 databases when our products change.

Does the website work in Safari on the iPhone? It should in theory work exactly the same, as Safari is a full blown browser on the iPhone.

You may want to consider a css style optimization for the iPhone to make it feel a bit more like a web app.

I have a mobile slimmed down version of the website minus all the flash that works fine in safari, we actually want an iphone app though, probably something like the IMDB app as we are in the same type of business

Ah, so you are developing an app and you want to talk to the site?

Umm... your best bet would be to expose the data in secure web services on your site, then call these from the app, and then parse through the data when it comes down?

I was just wondering if i can access the database directly of would i have to make a page up in asp that the app would access to get the data, im a long way from that at the moment so have plenty of time to search the web for ideas.

just hoping someone may have already found somewhere with some help

Well the way would be web services. .asmx SOAP based ones are the easiest. If you set them up properly you could just access the data from within the application like:

ListOfMovies = [myService GetAllMovies];

And it would poll the data right into your list object....
