Sub domains or individual

Hi there, i am in the process of getting a website developed in which the main main focuss is a local business directory, but also other portals like real estate, jobs, classifieds dating etc.

My developer reckons to use individual domains for each one but as it is all going to be for my local city i was thinking of just doing it all under the one domain (brand(

So i guess my question which is better

I can only have opinion on this and here it is:

If you are thinking SEO (i have not done SEO in a while so this might have changed) than probably individual domains.
If you are thinking branding than probably subdomains.

And what is your php issue? :)
