What is Crystal Report?

48
My boss asked me to find out "Crystal Report" and then use it to create report as our own database system doesn't produce all the reports that we needed. I have no idea what is it about. Can anybody be kind enough to show me some good link to look into? Currently I am using Access 2000 to link the tables thru ODBC to our system. Is Crystal Report easier to learn and more user friendly? Many thanks.

>>Crystal Reports is a business intelligence application used to design and generate reports from a wide range of data sources.
DataSources like: Microsoft Access(any version), SQL, and etc.
>>In Creating report in crystal you'll learn about the report design, place object on a report, and how to sort, group and total your reoport data.
>>If you are using access 2000, you can connect your database to crystal, it's just like the access report. you can drag any field you want to show..

Thanks for your info. Do I need to install anything in order to use Crystal? Like I need MS office professional so that I can use Access in it. How about Crystal? Does it comes with Microsoft or do I need to install and pay licence seperately?

Secondly, our database system is created in SQL. When I have Crystal in my computer, I can just link the table like how I did with Access? With Access, I can link the table using ODBC. How about Crystal? How to link the tables from current system with Crystal?

When in doubt, consult Wikipedia (there's a tutorial link too).
