Web 2.0 Membership Site

I am working on a web 2.0 website of my own design and I am doing this by trial and error. I am probably still classified as a beginner but I am willing to learn. I am trying to decide what the best programming language is to set up the membership side of my site. I want the site to be myspace-like where people can build there own profiles and post blogs, pretty much anything that can be done on other social sites. I have some experience with HTML and javascript but thats about all I have done so far. I have been looking at using PHP/MySQL or ASP. I just have no idea which, if either of these, would be best for my application. Any help would be great.

Thanks

George
