Suggestion: Splitting the .NET forum

Hello,

Wouldn't it be nice if the .NET forum is splitted into 2 items.
.NET contains mainly 2 items:
- Asp .NET webpages
- Windows applications (in C#, ...)

In the .NET forum are a lot of posts of both parts. This is kind of confusion.
If you look at the subject of a post, you don't know if it's ASP or a WinApp.
Though not everybody knows a lot about both parts.

This has been discussed extensively between the administrative staff here on the site. Not sure what the final determination was about it but I think for right now we are just keeping it one forum.

Mary told me it would be brought up again this week. The ASP forum has also been asking for some change since it is designated as a forum for "classic" ASP only, but we get a constant barrage of ASP.NET posts.

I'm not sure that splitting up the .NET area would have any effect on that though Jared. This is similar to how the old Article sections were bombarded with inappropriate posts even with all the notices etc etc put up to stop it.
At the end of the day there will be a large number of posters who simply don't check anything before they post :(

No I understand that. And I am looking for "helps" not necessarily "solutions". Consider if you were an ASP.NET beginner and you were looking for where to post. You scrolled down the forum list under "web development" and saw "ASP" and no mention of its .NET counterpart, your natural assumption would be "The ASP forum is where my question belongs." If you were to see two forums, one right after the other, "ASP" and "ASPX / ASP.NET" some fraction obviously wouldn't know the difference, but some would say, "my question belongs in the ASP.NET forum".

There is a good book you should read called "The Design of Everyday Things". It is written by a psychologist, and it explains how many user errors are caused. I believe that in this case the error of posting ASP.NET questions in the asp forum are caused by users not knowing the difference. I believe that adding an asp.net forum will help (not solve) by showing that there is a difference, of course some users still won't know which is the right forum... but I think it's a step in the right direction.
