PHP-ODBC & MS ACCESS

I've been trying to access a MS database running on a windows server using PHP & its odbc drivers.PHP 4.2.3 I've had success with SELECT but all my INSERTS (despite my PHP script saying all is well , "item uploaded to database") have NO effect on the access table!Must I odbc_commit per Insert or something else wrong?
Could someone guide me thru the basic steps of an odbc-access INSERT transaction so I can avoid dumping my code on this page.
Cheers,
