Kelly,

I dd the same thing and in SAFE mode I deleted my existing password instead of changing it and it worked.

Try just deleting it is SAFE mode and then rebooting. You can always add a password later.

NO, don't try this!! It will not help you and it might ruin some settings in your BIOS. If you don't know what a BIOS is then you should not be messing with it. Your BIOS has nothing to do with your operating system. If you are interested in learning about BIOS then check out wikipedia.

The truth is Kelly, that it is virtually impossible to crack a Windows password. It is designed to be very very very very difficult or else there would be no point in having passwords. However, depending on the layout of your system those files of your son are probably just fine and you should be able to recover them without incident. Then you can reinstall Windows and set your administrator password all over again.

What OS version are you using? Is it windows or not? What is you file system formatted as? Are you using anything like EFS or a third party disk encryption system? Can you connect to your computer over the network? If it is windows do you have a real OS recovery disk or one of those OEM disks that comes from the place where you bought your PC?

Theres away to change your password if you have access to the DOS command prompt. I'll tell you how to do it if an admin or moderator is alright with it being posted.

Eric

This is assuming your running XP. I don't know if it works on other versions

If you have access to a command prompt then you wouldn't need to change your password since you were already able to log in to use a command prompt. If the OP has access to a command prompt then let them say so. I would be shocked if they do given what has been said from earlier.
