Does your browser have javascript enabled then?
Oct 19 '06 #2
As far as I can tell yes. I went to Java and flash media and downloaded the most recent ones. How do I make sure my javascript is turned on? My Limewire did start to work though YouTube still isn't playing videos and still has same error message that either my java script is off or I need the new flash macromedia player. I have the new flash. I'm at my wits end.

I'm having the same trouble, I have up to date versions of Java and Flash, and Javascript is turned on. It used to work at one point and suddenly it doesn't. But I've tried all I can think of and still YouTube will not work in IE. Going to install Firefox now and see if it will play there.

Go to this site:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
and download and run Windows Flash Player 9 Active X control content debugger for IE. I also downloaded the Flash projector content debugger for windows just for good measure. It works fine now.

The same thing happened to me. It started yesterday. I did nothing to cause it. I even put all my security on the Tools of internet Explorer down to low. ugh!
I don't know if this is a coincidence or not. But I got mad and went to control panel and uninstalled all the java. (I wouldn't suggest this as web pages need it). However. I reopened internet explorer and you tube now play. Strange. I have no java on my computer now and it plays, yet I got the same message as you regarding java.
As a note to this. The java.On the microsoft site, there was a notice that they are no longer using Microsoft java. It is now Sun Microsystems java. I noticed over a month ago my computer was acting sluggish on the net. Almost like too much was running. In addition, I get many messages about my virtual memory running low and if I am blogging, it all crashes. I also noticed tonight that the little coffee cup was running in my tray - indicator of the Sun Microsystems JAVA.
For some reason, this java program seems to suck alot of memory. I have deleted it and now that I have no java, to my knowledge, you tube works. any suggestions for new java and where to get it??? I need it for other programs I would imagine.
Try it once. Someone on a group also told me to try to restore my computer. And another also suggested firefox.
None of us are alone I see many messages saying exactly the same. Try unintalling the java with coffee cup symbol in control panel remove programs. Believe or not it worked, or it was a coincidence.

Limewire? Don't admit to anyone that you have that on your PC!

After several tries, I discovered a very simple solution for the youtube videos problem:

Just go to this website: http://www.softwarepatch.com/ Search for flash player

and download and install this file. I guess the problem of everybody is because the link on youtube´s website downloads a "non functional file ". this is my personal opinion........

This new .msi file will solve you the problem and you can decide to use IE, or FIREFOX or whatever browser you like most ! All the programs will work again.

Good luck

Can anyone help me, I have AOL 9.0 and YouTube Videos won't play. They will play on my brothers account but not mine. It will show up fully loaded and then stop. Nothing will play.
Apr 9 '07 #15
Same here but I don't have AOL. YouTube refuses to play in IE or Firefox. I have tried the downloads mentioned above but that did nothing. I have a whole bunch of css errors in the Firefox error console if that matters. Videos will load and play for 1 - 2 seconds with no sound then just stop with no error stated anywhere that I can see. It's bizarre - it used to work fine and then just stopped. I use W2K and IE6 (only because it has to be there) and do not do any unnecessary updates. It works on other computers on our home network with the same setup.
Apr 14 '07 #16
I've just been starting to have this problem where sometimes, some youtube videos that I have been watching the whole time without a problem, all of a sudden wont play beyond 2 seconds. It looks like it downloaded the entire footage, but it just wont play. But this doesn't happen all the time, just a few videos will do that.

And I've gone through both AOL and Internet Explorer with the same result.
Apr 16 '07 #17
I installed both of the things on the softwarepatch.com, and the downloading the flashplayer (for IE) and the debugger and it still won't play Youtube, Please Help.

I'm experiencing the same difficulty. I was able to view selected videos at one stage and a few hours lately, those videos were stuck on "loading"

I have gone through all the steps. It has nothing to do with the web browser as I have both IP and Firefox and they both experience the same trouble.

I took my modem cable out and plugged it to my lap top, I figured a computer with different settings might do the trick, but still to no avail.

So obviously it's got to do with the service provider, but apparently there is nothing wrong with the connection speed. So I have no idea what the problem is.

It looks like it has been resolved. Post # 22 & #24 (yours is #25) both say that installing Adobe Flash 9 should do the trick (if it's not a Java installation issue).

Sorry I was browsing this subject because my computer is having the same problem with youtube but theres something I feel I really need to correct here. There is absolutely no association between Java and javascript. Javascript is an internet browser programing language, where as java is a complex programing language made by sun microsystems and is closely related to c and c++. youtube uses javascript for some dynamic stuff where as limewire is made with java. deleting all the java off your computer won't effect things that use javascript to run at all but will prevent java apps and executables made in java from working.

Sorry. I should have said "JRE" installation.

Not sure if everyone figured it out or came up with a solution but I just did some trouble shooting and it turns out my Norton 360's Ads/Popups blocker was enabled. (It can be any other Ads/Popups programs). So if you have any programs that blocks Ads/Popups, turn it off or add the address to your unblock sites. Well, I hope this will help for some of you. Good luck.

Go to a Youtube video that you know does not load i.e. (Javascript is not running) and then, turn your firewall "OFF" (don`t worry it`s only for a moment) then go back to Youtube and click on the video that would not play, and now it should load. You may also have to refresh your browser (to refresh, go to the view menu).
Then go back to your firewall and turn it back "ON".
I sussed it through trial and error.

Hello, I recently had the same problems with youtube. It was working fine 2 days ago and then all of a sudden stopped for no reason. The message your javascript is off or you haven't got the latest flash player kept appearing. Even though I had the latest version and javascript was on it still appeared with this message. I read in one of the previous posts by HuntAnAlien that it was the firewall causing these problems. I disabled this and then reloaded the page and it worked fine. More correctly, I disabled my internet security completely then reloaded the page. After further investigation it turns out that it was just ad blocking that was causing this problem as mentioned by InternetGeek above. I'm currently using Norton's Internet Security, is this the same for you guys?
Oct 23 '07 #30
Hi Jim, glad to know your back up and running on Youtube. The problem seems to be when the internet security program automatically updates your internet security software and thus blocks Youtube videos from loading (for some reason) and you need to disable internet security and refresh your browser to compensate. Because how can Youtube videos load one day and not the next when you haven`t even changed any settings? That`s my theory anyway.

youtube stopped working for me yesterday. i have followed everyone's directions on how to fix this problem and nothing has worked for me.
i uninstalled and then reinstalled the newest version of flash even the one from that patch website. i have tried youtube through both explorer and firefox. i restarted my computer, as well, after reinstalling flash.
i made sure that the javascript is on and even added youtube to my trusted websites.
i do have norton security and have tried completely disabling it, including disabling the ad pop up blocker, and NOTHING WORKS!
i am so frustrated....i don't know what else to do.
i followed all of the suggestions on the youtube help section on how to fix the problem and nothing works.
please, does someone have any other ideas? i'm gonna lose my mind!

I couldnt help but laugh when i read your post. Im going through the same exact problem you have. Glad im not the only one. Ive been so frustrated all day trying to figure this thing out. I think im suffering from withdraw symptoms without my youtube. Mine was working fine until yesterday and now every video i click on says "you either have java script turned off or an old version of adobe flash player installed" so i checked to see that my java script was enabled and i uninstalled my flash player then rebooted my computer and installed the latest version of adobe flash player. Still doesnt work. I tried the youtube help center and did exactly what they said. Didnt work either.I then contacted youtube support and they directed me back to the youtube help center which is what i had already done so i went to google and found this website and have tried a few things i read on here. I completely disabled my internet security and popup blockers, adware, spyware and still nothing works. I also downloaded the windows flash player 9 active x control content debugger for ie and of course that didnt work either. I havent tried the software patch yet so i guess thats next. If anyone has any ideas please advise. Thanks

Ive disabled all of the ad blockers but it still isnt working. Youtube says they are working on this problem so maybe its something that they need to fix instead of me
Oct 24 '07 #36
i patched & updated everything as advised, did'nt work.
Turned off ad blocking in norton & now you tube works again.
Oct 24 '07 #37
Thanks for your email. We have found that users with ad-blocking software enabled may not be able to see videos due to a conflict with our flash detection code and may see this error; "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." Our engineers are working on resolving this issue as quickly as possible. In the mean time, you may want to temporarily disable ad-blocking in your browser or security software.

Also, in case you’re trying to revert to the old version of the video watch page, follow the steps below:
1. Log out of your account.
2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
3. Relaunch your browser and try watching the video in question.

Hope this helps,

This worked for me guys you may want to give it a try.

I don't know what is going on. I am starting to think that youtube needs to be fixed and not me trying to fix things my end. Oddly for months I could watch some videos and not others. I could get by without too much inconvenience. About a week ago I thought I'd try to resolve the problem. I accidentally deleted my flash and nothing worked and I couldn't download from the link provided by youtube then I saw I could download and open the zip version and I was back to how things were, ie, being able to watch some videos and not others. I had followed the steps to see about javascript but it was already enabled so I gave up and figured what I could watch was better than nothing at all. I found that I couldn't watch videos by warnerbrothers channel. But three nights ago oh no it all just stopped working. I uninstalled and restarted my computer and installed and restarted again. I put youtube on my safelist, allowed popup ads. I did everything I could think of and it still wouldn't work and I couldn't contact youtube to explain, it just redirected me back to the help center and click an option from multiple choice, no reply. I went on myspace and what wait, I can view youtube videos embedded on myspace but I can't watch youtube videos when I click on the video on youtube. What is going on there? Also I can play the one video featured on people's channel above their video list if I just click play but I can not watch that same video if I click on it in their video list. I really think it is something with the site and hope they fix it soon. I am just embedding video codes on myspace so I can continue watching right now but can't wait till I can watch directly from youtube so that I can save and comment etc

What a nightmare! I too, could not help but laugh when I read that other people have been experiencing the same problems with youtube videos. Several have posted that they have fixed the problem by removing ad-blocking software/installing Flash 9/software patches/etc...and of course nothing has worked for me. If anyone has had any success with resolving this problem, I would be most appreciative if you shared.
Thanks,

Yes the problem for me was firewall, i have norton so it was a simple right click disable, a link pops up asking how long just click 5 minutes but when the video is over (if it hasnt been 5 min.) right click again and click enable bringing your norton protection back up immediately.

If all else failed, then try this, it worked for me:

Method 1: Reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.

My OS is Vista and browser is IE 7. I have no probelm watching video from some of the website ( www.thestar.com) but I cannot watch any video on toutube unless I dropped the firewall in my internet security. When I click on the youtube video all I got was a blank screen. When I right click on the screen I can see message "Movie not loaded.... About Adobe Flash Player 9....". I did all the suggestions that were posted but nothing happened. I have a laptop with Vista OS and browser IE 7 and I can watch youtube. I compared the Flash Players and found out that the Flash Player on the laptop was Flash9b.ocx and on the desktop was Flash9e.ocx. Could this be the culprit? Where can I get another copy of the Flash9b.ocx?

I understand your frustration everybody!! I was almost relived when I found this thread as I now know I am not the only one to experience this annoying problem....I don't know what to do.....sometimes youtube works fine.....sometimes the dreaded message 'Flash player, Java script turned of' appears and I cannot watch anything....I Have the latest flash player, Java is ON...what can I do?? I have tried to deactivate the Firewall...nothing.....reinstalled Flash 2 or 3 times.....I am reticent to use the de bug ( what is it exactly) and not sure about the patch.....they semed to have worked for some of you but not all......and knowing my luck it would not work for me..I really would like to get a straight answer from Youtube....does them problem come from them? but it seems almost impossible to contact them.....looking at the dates of this thread it has been going on a long time !! have there been any developments this month??
