How can I understand programming

1
Hello I am a Higher Computing Student who in standard grade(last year) had someprior knowledge of basic Visual Basic Programming and then moved school at a bad time during prelims before the main exams and had to learn True Basic.

I Passed the course with little programming though now I am not finding this easy at all and seem to be struggling alot. I was given a coursework task which uses arrays to find the transfer rate of the fastest drive (which was input with others). I am not really understanding how to go about trying to use this obviously as I am not comfortable with implementing code as it ends up becoming a lot of gibberish. And it feels our teacher expects us to know everything without question due to some others in the class being more fluent in the code due to home interest which the source they sahll not disclose.

Please could I have some pointers on how to increase my chances of understanding this programming language, I.e tutorials which advance in to higher grade use of code?

I ask out of sheer desperation and look for some programming whizz person to give a guy a hand out of the hole he has dug himself.

Thanks

J-89

[EDIT] I do believe this should have been posted elsewhere and do appologise.[EDIT]

Read a lot; about the language you are learning. And practice a lot.

Go through a lot of the tutorials; try to code the same tutorial. Then try to apply it in some small project you are working on.

I always keep small projects on the side to learn different things.
