very slow network connection between window7 and ubuntu10.4

hello everybody,
I have network that consists of 3 computers , two of them have ubuntu10.4 as os and the other one make use window7 as os. I put them inside a network by setting Ip address , net mask and the other setting , they are now in the network . but my problem is that this connection is very very slow and most of the time when i want to connect to the other computer it interupted and show me a message that say my connection has timed out.
Can it caused by unkonwn network card on my ubuntu10.4 or misconfiguration and if it is true how can i fix it and install it manually?

I search about it on the net but i didn't find anything.
thanks alot in advance.

you say, all fixed ip-addresses
what protocol are you using on the connection?

what do you see when you do this on your windows7 machine:
ping -t <ip-addressofUbuntu>

hi

thank you for your help.I set Ip address of two computers(one windows7 and the other one ubuntu 10.4) to (DHCP)Automatic and I gave the other ubuntu10.4 ip address manually to 192.168.1.5.
my network is working but it's very very slow and most of the times it's interupted.

by the way thanks alot for your help.

I changed their ip setting method and set Ip Addresses for all of them manually , sth that is weird to me is that one of my ubuntu system is working properly and it has interupted never wehenever i connect to internet but for the other ones the situation is diffrent they are interupted periodically and show Destination Host Unreachable message when i ping 4.2.2.2 and i have very bad slow network connection when i use two other ones. it worthwhile to mention that all of them have the same network configuration but different Ip Address.
Is it possible that ubuntu10.4 that is installed on my computers cant know about their proper grafic card or the other drivers. I glanced the path System>Administration>Hardware Drivers but nothing is mentioned there. can i ask you help me what is the problem?
in advance thanks alot.

The 192.168 range is very different from the 4.4 range.

What is the IP of the Windows7 system?

What is the IP of the Ubuntu system?

Have you attempted to put both of them on the 192.168.1.x network on an IP that was known as 'unassigned'? (Boot another computer on the network, check the IP for the 192.168.1.x range, note the specific IP, turn the computer off, assign one of those to the system not on the 192.168.1.x range)

As soon as the connection works you can alias both systems in the hosts file to help speed up resolution, but you need to make sure they're on the same network and subnet before that happens.
