hosting a domain with a dedicated server (Linux CentOS)

Hi everyone
I'm a programmer and have no knowledge of setting up servers.
One of my clients have a dedicated server on GoDaddy and a domain name registered with a Swedish registrar.

The virtual dedicated server's OS is Linux Centos. I added the domain name on the servers control panel but I think I have to add some DNS or name servers like NS1 , NS2

But as I mentioned before I have no knowledge of doing this. I appreciate if anyone tells me how to do it.

You are going to have to log into the control panel at the Swedish Registrar's site and add the following nameservers:

NS71.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
NS72.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

Those are GoDaddy's servers (unless they provided you something different). But, all in all, you have to setup the nameservers you point to over at the registrar's site.

I think these name servers are for normal hosting packages For dedicated servers I have to setup name servers myself but i don't know how to do that.

I would check with the registrar then. They should have DNS servers that you can use. You basically change the A record to point to your machine's IP and they will redirect it. That is what I did. I bought my domain at GoDaddy and let them do the DNS resolution via their nameservers.

Again, you'll set the nameservers to be your registrar's, and then change the A record of the dns to point to the IP of your dedicated server.

Believe me, unless you have unlimited bandwidth, you don't want to go setting up your own DNS server. That can lead to an increase in bandwidth you might no be prepared to handle.
