The best thing you can do for learning the Unix/Linux commands is to practice with them. A quick Google Search will reveal some sites that list the linux commands.

We will be happy to answer whatever questions you have about linux commands, simply post your questions here. Also, please DO NOT put your personally identifiable information, such as email addresses, phone numbers or URLs in the forums as it is against the posting policy of the site.

To that effect, I have removed your email address from your post.

Regards,

Jeff

A very good way of actually trying the commands is to create a Linux virtual machine. You can use VMWare, VirtualBox, VirtualPC, there are others. Install Linux on the VM and create a snapshot, then test out a bunch of commands, if you kill the OS, just restore the snapshot.

I would agree with Hydaral, but go a little farther. Backup your Windows machine, create a small Linux partition, install Linux, and use that as your primary operating system for two months. Don't use Ubuntu either - use a distro that will make you configure, get into the inner workings, use the shell, etc...

Then, if you don't like it after two months (or another extended trial of Ubuntu so that you get the feeling of the "everything just works" distro) you can re-image with your Windows backup.

When you're forced to use it as your daily OS, that's when you really start to learn it.

I would have to agree with @sicarie. But, I would like to add that if you wanted to check out a distro before installing, simply download a live cd and boot off of it. May distros, including Ubuntu, have live cd capabilities. They are kind of like a "try before you use" version of the distro.

Jeff
