changed fstab, made mistake, now /etc is readonly file system

I made a mistake and provided an invalid option in fstab on a bare bone debian 4.0 etch system.

How can I undo my changes if I can't edit /etc/fstab. can I mount and remount /dev/sda2 (where its at) and provide a -w option so it becomes writable.

Right now it will not boot normally, i get errors. I use single-user mode, provide root password.

This is time critical. I've googled for about an hour. I might just reinstall in an hour or so.

(Can't write to fstab because it says Read-only File System.

I can save stuff to home though.

Thanks guys,

Dan

my best bet would be to boot a liveCD and change the file like that

True, I can't get a live CD where i'm at. Since it just installed it, i'll just reinstall, nothing to lose. This would be a good option though for anyone with data on the drive.

Thanks,

I hope you didn't reinstall yet, cause I might have found a solution

You installed Debian from the CD I suppose, you can use the installation CD as liveCD (just tested on the network installation CD 128MB)
Just let it boot, then change tty (ctrl+alt F2) then you can try to change things with the busybox on the system.

Ya, it only took 15 minutes to get back to where I was since it was a bare install (no packages).

This is definitely good info that Google didn't have. (Now it does!) :D
