Fedora won't run in GUI Mode

Hi Everyone,

Am quite new to linux, Av tried to install fedora 9 on my desktop but it won't install in GUI mode. When I try text mode, It installs fine but if I login as root and try "startx", it seems to hang on a blurred screen. The same is what happened when I tried to install in GUI mode. I had installed Ubuntu successfully but it also had problems which I was solving by selecting the 'safe install' or something like that in which case it worked fine. I think fedora has many more features and that's why I am trying it out. Anyone?

Regards,

Alex.

Sounds to be an issue with your video card. Have you searched google for Fedora with your video card and see what issues others have had, if any?

Hi Jeff,
Yah I have, and my video card is quite generic so it's kinda hard to pinpoint the problem. And why doesnt it work with fedora yet other systems work fine?

Regards,

Alex.

Not really sure. Can you define "generic"? Is it ATI based? NVIDIA based? Intel video? etc....

I would suggest finding live CD's of different distributions (Ubuntu, Suse, etc) and I would think that if the live cd works, then installation should work fine. I have never had a problem with that theory, but I am sure its not fool-proof.
