Hi everybody!
As the Title says, I'm looking for a Distro to put on my USB pendrive (2GB). I want it to save the changes I make and as I'm used to Ubuntu and Knoppix, something Debian based might be a good idea. I've tried Slax (Slackware based) and guess it's OK, but it's just... No apt-get, no vim preinstalled, the module system is a bit weird...
I know you can install Ubuntu on a pendrive, but I was thinking of something smaller. (Maybe 300mb? I want some space left for Data...)
When I tried DSL last time it seemed a little odd, but maybe I just gave up to soon. And am I right in thinking that DSL-N is problematic about some of the Debian repositories?
Does anyone have any experience with such systems and could recommend one or two?

afaik you could install any system on a usb drive, if you are familiar with debian and the likes:
http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/179
or http://live.debian.net/cdimage/etch-builds/
have fun

Hm, especially the first link looks useful, I guess I'll try it. Have you ever followed those instructions yourself and if so, are there any tips you could give me?
Greetings,
Nepomuk
I haven't trying to install those on a usb drive, but I have tried to manually install a debian os before and I think the overall technique might work (I say might, I'm not sure)
what you do is this:
you install a system on your computer (regular hdd) or take an existing one
then mount your usb drive to /mnt/sdb1 for example (make sure you have rw access)
copy over all the files:
$> cp -Rr / /mnt/sdb1
(this could take a while)
then when everything is copied time to mount a few important things
$>mount --bind /dev /mnt/sdb1/dev
$>mount --bind /proc /mnt/sdb1/proc
$>mount --bind /sys /mnt/sdb1/sys
After everything is mounted, it's time to chroot
$>chroot /mnt/sdb1/
now you are on the filesystem on your USB drive
check you have internet connectivity (you should if you simple copied it all)
and I think you have to reconfigure grub (or lilo) once you have done this
$> dpkg-reconfigure grub
if that however didn't work, I have no clue :)
