I Need Your Help; I Am New To Unix!

I'M TRYING TO LEARN UNIX WITH THE HELP OF SOME BOOKS. PLEASE HELP ME WITH EXERCISE BELOW.

From your home directory, create a new directory named coursework.
In this directory create further directories named chapter2, chapter3, chapter4, chapter5, chapter6, chapter7 and chapter8 respectively.
In your newly created directory, chapter2, create a file named 'dir_listing' and, using the 'ls -l command', place a copy of the contents of the root (/) directory in it ( see section 5, 'Displaying the beginning or end of a file', for details on how to acheive this).
Now obtain a list of users (found in /home/) and append this to the contents of the 'dir_listing' (remember the '>>' command!).
Finally, create a symbolic link to the file created above in the chapter2 directory and name it link_dir_listing.

Whoa, no need to shout. Okay, and after reading that chapter, did you have an idea of how to do that? I'm guessing the chapter introduced a few commands... maybe ones that started with mk or the letter l?

I agree with sicarie. Usually the questions at the end of chapters use what was in the chapters. You may want to re-read the chapter again.

Also, please know that you do not need to try to convey your sense of urgency as an emergency for you does not translate to an emergency for the rest of us. All questions here have the same priority.
Regards,

Jeff

Okay, so what do you have so far? What have you tried, and what do you need help with. Let's work through this one problem at a time.
