It's been a while since I last did this. I now tend to set up the name I want when I install the OS, but it isn't hard. The easiest way should be with the GUI network setup tool. Assuming you have a relatively plain setup, you should have a menu bar at the top of your screen. Click on "System" and select "Administration" from the drop-down menu. Then click on the "Network" selection in the second drop-down. You will get a dialog box asking for the root password. (Of course you have to be able to become root to do config changes affecting the whole system.) Then click the "DNS" tab from the resulting dialog box, change the value of the "hostname" and that's it. You should be able to just restart the networking, but you'll probably find it easier just to reboot the box. (It's certainly easier for me to explain. :-) )

Then the system should come up with the new name. If this doesn't work (but it should) come on back and I'll type out longer instructions on how to do it all manually. :-)

Best Regards,
Paul
