Conditional commands-Unix

What can be done to save a script from failing, when it happens for a IF command to check a Null value with a value?

Can you please rephrase you question? Is your script failing when the If condition checks a null value?

I'm not at all sure I understand your question either, but I'll take a quick stab at it. Do you mean that you need to test for a null value to make sure your script will not fail? For example, if $j is a null string your script might fail?
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. export j=""
  2. if [ "$j" = "" ]; then
  3.     echo "null"
  4. else
  5.     echo "NOT null"
  6. fi
  7.
Where you probably should choose to do something substantive instead of just "echo". :)

If this is not what you are asking, please try again.

Best Regards,
Paul
