I have Ubuntu and i was wondering, what really is the the best antivirus for me? or do i even need one? I've read reviews, but they never just get to the point.

You only need an antivrus software if you for exaple are hosting a mailserver or a fileserver. To protect windows clients.

There is no AV software for Linux viruses. Manly becuse there are to few viruses (Like 30 or something like that). And like none of them actuly work anymore.

ClamAV is ok.

All you realy need to worry about is rootkits.
Dont run random scripts. And whenever anything wants root, Think hard if you realy want it to have root-access. And what it will do.
And bruteforce of ssh. But thats not reay a problem on ubuntu. First of all, You dont have ssh installed from the start.
Second, There is no root account. (Ofcource there is a root acount, But its disabled by default)

Safe from what?
Clam cant find anything that culd do any damage to your OS. And you better hope that the windowsusers you share files with have antiviruses of ther own. Theyd be stupid otherwise.

You dont need an antivirus. As a result of this, Clam dont do on access scan. Wich means you manualy have to tell it what files to scan.

For example a mailserver: If a mail has an attachment a script detects this and tells Clam to scan it.
Its a performence issue. You dont want an AV running constantly and stealing CPU time.

So you be having a program installed and you will never use it. You have no point in using it. General space-waste.

Smygis is sort of right. Linux is not really in danger of many viruses. It doesn't hurt to have a virus scanner for any computer, since no OS is totally safe.

If even to protect Windows and Mac users from stuff that may just pass through your system; through email or IM for instance. Panda Software offers a free Linux version of their program: http://www.pandasoftware.com/download/linux/linux.asp. Or you might want to check out the official Ubuntu Feisty Repository: http://awn.wetpaint.com/page/Ubuntu+Feisty+Repository?t=anon.
And finally you might want to check out http://www.osalt.com, it is a good resource for alternatives to commercial software. Hope this helps.
