Debian shutdown and startup hang

1 New Member
Hello everyone

I was wondering if someone can assist me. I just installed a fresh copy of debian etch on a server that was previously running windows. Startup time of the server is roughly an hour. Which is unacceptable for a production server. The server hangs on "Uniform cd-rom driver revision:3.20". If I remove the cd-rom drive, the server willl still hang but on another device it is trying to load.

While trying to shutdown the server there is also a long delay before the server will actually shutdown or restart. The server will hang on "asking all remaining processes to terminate".

People have told me the Harddrive may be faulty, but I had windows running fine on it earlier.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing this problem and how I can fix it?

Have you tried putting a Live CD in there and checking things out? Something like Knoppix or an Ubuntu Live CD? Then you can check the drive and devices, etc...

I'm running Oracle 8.1.7.4.1 on W2K and have the services for my oracle instances set to automatically startup and shutdown with the W2K server. Unfortunately, neither is working. Nothing gets logged in my alert file for the shutdown or startup, however, the databases are down and when I manually start them up, the alert log reveals a crash recovery. I've verified the settings in the registry for automatic shutdown and startup. I've...

I need to create a utility to shutdown another running application. I know you can get a Process object and execute the Exit method but that only works for apps that have a main window, mine does not. So is there a way to shutdown a running app (with no main window) from another app (without using Process.Kill). --Buddy

I have written a service that is depending on mysqld. The service startup just fine, but I would like to have my service *always* shutdown first before mysqld does. That way I can add some log into my table before the service shutdown. As I search online, I haven't found any way to do so. Since the "service dependencies" setting of services is only used at startup stage, but not at shutdown stage. Is there any way to intercept the...

In trying to improve the throughput of a classic ASP app I wrote a few years ago, I added monitoring to the application and session start and end methods. I'm counting the total number of sessions and the high water mark. The results are puzzling to me. In Application_OnStart, I clear the current and highwater session counts, and write an app startup event to my app log file (a text file). In Application_OnEnd, I write an app shutdown...

All, With Python 2.5 SocketServer features the shutdown method that can be called from another thread to stop the serve_forever loop. However; When the shutdown method is called before serve_forever, shutdown will never return. This can happen when a server is stopped during startup.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
