How to replace the special characters in data while dynamically populating thru AJAX

P: 7
Hi,
I'm populating the drop down menu dynamically through ajax. But the database data column contains special symbols and when I populate this through Ajax in a JSP page gives anonymous symbols everywhere on the screen. How to avoid this?
My data contain symbols like & ( ) - ~ * / etc.

Help me. Thanx in advance.

You can convert these symbols to their HTML equivalents.

Also, if you require the character encoding to be set to display a particular character, then set it on the page and before the Ajax request.
