How do I send a POST request without output or redirection?

I'm making a lightbox thing for a login so I made a lightbox php script and I dont want to redrect so I have to send a HTTP request using JS.
Heres my lightbox code:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <?php
  2. //add lightbox for LOGIN
  3. $loginlb = beginlightbox();
  4. ?>
  5. <b>Login</b>
  6. <form name="loginform">
  7. Username:&nbsp;<input type="text" name="username" id="username" /><br />
  8. Password:&nbsp;<input type="password" name="password" id="password" /><br />
  9. <input type="button" name="login" id="login" value="login" onclick="login();">
  10. </form>
  11. <?php
  12. endlightbox($loginlb);
  13. ?>
  14.
PS I made my own lightbox commands

You'd need to use Ajax. Have you any experience of it?
