How to prompt user to ok/cancel and execute sql in do loop?

For each db record that a sql statement produces I want to prompt the user to press ok or cancel and then if OK, run another sql statement to insert data into a db field. I'm trying to check for empty time fields and fill them if the user wants them filled with the current time.

do you trigger the SQL Statements by submitting a form or by doing an AJAX call?
