Unterminated string constant

What do i need to add to the document line to stop getting an Unterminated
String Constant error?

itemtocheck = '1300';
document.writeln('<!--#include
virtual="checkQty.cgi?item='+itemtocheck+'"-->');

Anyway it makes no sense to write a serverside directive in a clientside
script.

there is no line break just the way it posted. What I'm doing is when the
customer views their shopping cart, I am wanting to use the line below to
pull instant stock status from mySQL to show availability of each item.
