Cannot edit form field unless I highlight the form field

I have an asp page (classis asp) which has form fields in it such as name and address. The user can add there information ok but when they return to edit the data in the form fields you can only type where the current letters are unless you hi light the field.

So if the field contains 10 characters, but will accept 20, to type in the additional characters you have to hi light the field.

Hope this is clear enough.

Many thanks

no ... it's not clear (at least for me :) ) ... what do you mean with 'highlight the field' ... to type into a field the field needs to have the focus of course ...

kind regards
