how know the size of a div,table and window?

i looking for function to
know the size of a div,table and window/content

then i want move one picture to the bottom of the table/div

i already try use the align: bottom etc and that work when i load the page
for the first time.
but when i change the content without reloading the page the image simply
donīt go to the bottom, so i looking fo a way using javascript to force
the image position to the bottom-

Don't try JavaScript. You need to have some top-padding in your div, or set the image as background of the div with background-position as bottom center.

i try this but donīt work:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. background-image:url('smiley.gif');
  2. background-repeat:no-repeat;
  3. background-attachment:fixed;
  4. background-position:right;
  5. background-bottom:center;
the image dont move to the bottom of the div
what i doing wrong?
thanks for your help

ps: i want use a div not a background of the body

There's no background-bottom property. Set the background-position to bottom.
