close popup window and redirect the main page

hi all,
i am developing an asp.net Application. when i am clicking a link , it opens a pop up (login page). after successfull login , the disignated url opens in the popup window. this is a problem. i want after login it should close the popup window. and open the designated url in the same page.

my popup page is login.aspx .

i am opening the pop up using javascript.
closing the popup by: self.close() method. then if i use window.open(url) to open a page , but it opens in a new page. which in dont want. i am using master page in asp.net.

Use window.opener to refer to the parent window, so you could use something like:

window.opener.location.href = url;
