How to stop resizing of combo boxes

P: 6
I have created some autopopulating combo boxes on my HTML page (script- Javascript). so these combo boxes are autopopulated with choices made in previous combo boxes.
The problem I am facing is that the combo boxes resize according to the length of the autopulating string. For example if the combo box autopopulates with option 'United States of America', the combo box will become wider and if it autopopulates with value 'NY' the combo box will contract. How can I stop the combo boxes from resizing on autopopulation? Is there any resize= 'No' option for Combo boxes in Javascript. And how can I fix the size of all the combo boxes to be the same.
Thanks in anticipation.

Set the width of the combo box. The problem, though, is that the user will then not see anything which is larger than the width in browsers like IE which do not expand automatically when the drop down box is clicked.
