anti-flash javascript

I'm working on my company's website, and i'm trying to avoid using flash as much as possible for expediency.
Click here to see the site so far.
Click here for my CSS text

The expanding boxes on the left are placeholders for images to be inserted later (and have the same effect)

Here's my question: is there a way through javascript that I can achieve an accelleration-decelleration effect that would smooth out the transition?

You'll have to use IE. Firefox requires a different set of javascript code for changing CSS styles. Since most of our target audiences are in the corporate world, they'll be using IE, and my initial build will be for IE--Firefox-friendly website will come after the first one works.
