mozilla hangs for javascript alert

I have a typical senario. My Web component provides action for database backup and restore. while user wants to backup or restore database the user is logged out and redirected to the login page and the webserver (basically an application server JBoss) shuts down. In the login page there is an ajax call which checks when the server is again fully functional after the backup/restore is complete and server is restarted.after the server is ready that is ready state is reached from the ajax call I am giving an alert that backup/restore is done. This works fine in IE but in mozilla if I don't click Ok button of javascript alert when the alert comes and wait for some time say 10 minutes doing other operation like typing a word document the browser hangs.
I am using OS as windows both for server and client and using struts ejb hibernate.

Post your code. One possible alternative to alerts is to use a psuedo-popup using DHTML, but first let us see the code.
