Jump to Spot in Audio - Podcasting

P: 113
Hey all;

This question is a bit of a weird one I hope I can find an answer. Google was of not much help but it was hard to search. I am the webmaster for my church and we have been recording sermons and posting them online as podcasts since October (07). Since the new year hit we have been recording the entire service and posting excerpts up.

Now, what I would like to do is with the audio file posted (mp3 format, embed tags, quicktime plugin) create a link or button where when clicked will jump to a specific point in the file. This will take the listener directly to the sermon portion. Can this be done? And if so, how? I have no idea where to start.

Would creating a bookmark in the file be best? Or reference a specific point in time (1hr, 22 mins, 33 seconds for example)? Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

This is not possible directly with JavaScript, but you can try using a helper application/plug-in, e.g. Flash, an applet. You can use JavaScript to interface with it, e.g. SWFObject for Flash.
