And you don't think that the biggest ego in the business retiring isn't
germane to this group?

If Bill Gates had ever written a line of JScript, only then his
"retirement", even if not being news at all, would be on topic here.

It would seem that a news item of this nature would bear at least a
passing mention in the group, regardless of whether Bill Gates ever
wrote any JScript. I would tend to think that an architect of the
browser wars and countless headaches in the writing and execution of
Javascript would be on topic in any discussion group where the user
agent itself is discussed.

But then again, I'm a noob as it were, and I understand my skills at
logical induction and deductive reasoning can nowhere near parallel
yours, and so I add the obligatory:

IMHO

Suffice it to say that you are giving the man far too much credit.

The announcement was made 18 months ago - no one cared to mention it
then, it is hardly topical now.

At some time in the future it may be possible to look back and see a
significant change in Microsoft web products that can be attributed to
the non-involvement of Gates in their development strategy. As far as
I know, there is no expectation of such change so it's business as
usual. Hence the belated re-announcement of his retirement is of
little interest.
