Problem with javascript sizing div's...

Hey all,
I'm pretty new to javascript, and I need to create a website layout that has two columns of equal size. So, I've created the following script:

document.onload = size();
 
function size() {
  var pl = document.getElementById('page_left');
  var pm = document.getElementById('page_middle');
  pl.style.height = pm.style.height; 
}
 

But, it doesn't seem to work quite right.

NOTES-
the "page_middle" section of the site will always be the longest.
"page_left" is floated to the left.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could probably set this with CSS alone.
