can you type into a select drop down box?

69
Hi again,

I have a select drop down box.It has over 400 options in it. I wanted to know if there was a way that the user could type in the box and bring up the value or values that match or come close to what they are typing. Eg. If the user starts typing adm then the value in the box would show administration and then the user could select it.
I know if you type 'N' for example while the box is dropped then it would point to the first option that starts with 'N'. But say the user wanted New York and they start typing N and then e and then w, the list would jump to the first option with N and then the first option with e etc etc.

Is this possible?

I will say no only because I've never seen that work before.

It is possible through AJAX and JS, not through HTML, though.

I'm not going to write it out for you, if that's what you mean

1) because i can't...
2) because it's against what we do here.

Very useful AJAX and JavaScript tutorials (that will help you get your goal) are here
