Set focus in firefox

Hi all,
I need a help of u all. I want to know how to set focus using javascript in firefox. If a textbox is empty it should stay in the textbox, without entering anything it should not jump to another control. .focus() is working fine in IE. I want a method which should work in all browsers...

Please do the needful help.
