Programmatically generate a DnD "drop" into Text Area

The verbose thread title explains it.

Basically, I have a toolbar that hooks file-drop events into text areas, and I'd like to perform this procedure without manually dragging.

I'd like to write a script function which does something like this (OOP semantics):

TextArea.drop (IDataObject, ...)

wherein I would be responsible for the IDataObject implementation.

Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is this possible at all, even if not in javascript?

No, the payload is a list of files, in DnD operations, referenced within the IDataObject.

I am trying to simulate drag n drop of a selection of files from windows explorer into a text area. I don't care about the event handling of the text area (maybe I need to implement a dummy handler here), I just want my toolbar item to detect the drop (which should hook the drop event).
