is the same thing? (all browser compatible?)
That's two different questions. In answer to the first: no, they are
not the same thing. The checked property is a boolean, so it must be
set to either true or false. Assigning a string to something that
expects a boolean in the hope that the browser will correctly type
convert it can be expected to fail at least some of the time.
In answer to the second: if you assign a boolean and the browser
barfs, then it is not standards compliant. You can report it as such
and write a work-around if you care, at least you have the moral high
ground.
If you assign a non-standard type and hope that it is type converted
but isn't, *you* are at fault and others will care.
Which of the above you choose depends on which scenario you like
better.
