Find number of lines entered into a text box

Is it possible to interrogate the number of lines that have been entered into a text box?
This would include not only lines that have been terminated by hitting the enter key, which could be simply found by scanning the data, but also take into account any text wrapping. The idea is to find out exactly how may lines there are AS SEEN BY THE USER.

This function uses the cols property of a text area to determine its apparent number of lines.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. window.reline=function(hoo){
  2.     var temp=  hoo.value;
  3.     var c=hoo.cols;
  4.     var lines;
  5.     if(temp){
  6.         var A= temp.split('\n');
  7.         var L= A.length;
  8.         lines=L;
  9.         for(var i=0;i<L;i++){
  10.             var tem=A[i];
  11.             while(tem.length-c > 0){
  12.                 ++lines;
  13.                 tem= tem.substring(c);
  14.             }
  15.         }
  16.     }
  17.     return lines;
  18. }
