using JS to fill a web page column in 2 column layout

I am not even sure what I want to do is possible, and I have very limited programming experience. I have tried using HTML frames, but due to issues with my site menu, I can't use frames, and I understand frames create problems with search engines.

I want to have a web page with 2 columns (I do this with CSS). I want to put some buttons in the left column that will select the content for the right column.

I want to learn about programming with JS, but I am not sure how to start.

hi ...

there are a lot of possibilities to do what you want ... perhaps you may start to search the web for dom-scripting with javascript. with that you may handle your problem in the following way:

1. onclick of one of your buttons in the first css-container you get your content that relates to that click
2. prepare your content (createElements = document nodes = html-tags with the attributes you want)
3. append your nodes to your second css-container wherever you want them to appear

have a look at the following dom-methods: createElement, setAttribute, appendChild, insertBefore, ...

you also may use the innerText- or innerHTML-properties that you may set with whatever you want ... to fill a css-container with your content ...

kind regards ...
