I want the dtls info about document.selection.

document.selection is at the moment browser specific- you use different syntax for IE, firefox (and other geckos) and Opera.

IE has a textRange object as well, and the other browsers support parts of the DOM treeWalker recommendation.

So it is a moving target, with no simple common interface.
Here is a start-
