Sending ajax requests to a tcp server

Hi,
Is it possible to send Ajax requests to server other than web server? If so can the requests be sent to a machine running tcp server (in any language) in other system? Where (or which function is used) to mention the server ip and port?

Go through a simple tutorial.

If it's not from the same domain, you won't be able to make a request, but you could have a script that acts as a proxy sends on the request, gets the response and returns this back to the Ajax script.
